Nature Parks Argentario

The natural reserves parks and oases in Maremma cover a surface of approximately 40,000 acres and are an integral part of a territory which distinguishes itself thanks to the variety and richness of its natural environments. The most well-known park is the Maremma Nature Park, including the coastal strip of the Tuscan Maremma which goes from the Talamone promontory to the mouth of the Ombrone River, bordered inland by the Aurelia. Those who wish to visit the park can choose from a variety of itineraries, depending on the season, the length and the level of difficulty. The itineraries may be undertaken alone, in a group as well as with the aid of a guide. Moreover, you can also visit the park on horseback, by carriage, bike and canoe. Naturalistically speaking, most of the park is occupied by the Uccellina Mountains, which run parallel to the coast and are covered by thick scrub.

Another important ecosystem is the Orbetello Lagoon, the second largest in Italy. Situated along one of the important migration routes, the park is an unspoiled environment made up of the Feniglia Dune, a pinewood and farmlands. It hosts approximately 200 species of aquatic birds such as pink flamingoes, ducks, herons, grebes and seagulls. WWF organizes guided tours along “nature paths” furnished with observation points and sheds equipped with informative placards.
